Tammy Bennetts

Tammy has been a DSA member since 1988 and a DSA Director since 2005. She has a passion for the committees she chairs, including the the Peace Officer Memorial Committee, where she sits as a director on the California Peace Officer Memorial Foundation, and the Scholarship Committee. Tammy has worked hard to increase the scholarships that are awarded to members as well as to the senior high school students who are dependents of DSA members to where it is today, in the amount of $1500. She is also an avid supporter of the US Honor Network and the US Honor Flag.
She is a San Diego native and grew up in the East County, where she attended Granite Hills HS in El Cajon. She continued her education at Grossmont College in La Mesa where she earned her AS degree in Administration of Justice: Law Enforcement.
She is a Weimarainer lover and is passionate about rescuing her dogs, including her current “Weim”, Kami. She is an avid football fan, who loves watching the Chargers or any football for that matter. Tammy’s other hobbies include scuba diving, reading, sewing and embroidering, where she lets the machine do all the work. She has seen many different creatures under the sea in many different locations, including Costa Rica, Honduras, Hawaii, Catalina Island and La Jolla. She especially enjoys diving with the turtles, white tip sharks and dolphins in Hawaii.
Tammy has been with the Sheriff’s Department since 1980, getting her start as an Explorer Scout. She spent the first five years of her career working the Las Colinas Detention Facility. She then spent the next six years of her career in the East County working patrol in Santee, Lakeside and the unincorporated areas of El Cajon. She has spent the rest of her time working in San Marcos, first in patrol then in traffic which she is a member of the Sheriff Departments STAR (Sheriff Traffic Accident Reconstruction) team. Tammy also runs the department’s Explorer Program and continues to enjoy working with the young adults and youths who share an interest in law enforcement. Tammy is also a member of the Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard and feels it is an honor to represent the department at numerous events and funerals, where she pays tribute to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
Tammy reaches her 25 year mark this year with the Sheriff’s Department and has enjoyed her career so far, with several more years to go.
