Three of the Board of Directors are elected by the Class 1 members each January, with each serving a three year term. The President, Vice-President and Secretary/Treasurer are elected by the Board of Directors from the seated Board and each office is a two year term.

Read the President's Report

Ernie joined the Marshal’s Department in 1982 and became a San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputy in 2000 when the two organizations merged. Before taking on the role of full-release president, Ernie served as a patrol and court deputy.

Ernie has been a member of the board of directors for the DSA since 2001. He chaired the Meet & Discuss and Political Action committees and was a member of the Membership and Legal Defense committees. Previously, he served as president of the Latino Peace Officer’s Association and was vice president of the Marshal’s Association.

Ernie was born and raised in San Diego and has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from San Diego State University. He and his wife Aurora have been married for over 20 years. They have two children and a grandson.
