Ponzio Oliverio

Vice President

Ponzio Oliverio was born and raised in San Diego. He joined the Sheriff’s Department in 1985. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts in Humanities from Thomas Edison College and then a Juris Doctor from University of San Diego School of Law. He is a member of the California State Bar.

For the past several years, Ponzio has been active in the DSA as a station representative, serving on several committees. This has allowed him to observe what is required of a board member and given him a great appreciation for what is necessary to serve on the board of directors.

“The duty of a director is a call to service, not a position of privilege or for self-serving interests. The board works for the members, and the privilege is in working for the benefit of the membership as a whole. I will continue to work for the interests of the men and women of this department who have placed their faith in me to represent them.”

As a member of the Negotiations Committee, Ponzio was pleased to work towards the contract extension, but though that hurdle is behind us, he believes there are still challenges ahead in negotiations. He invites members to become more involved in their association—become a station rep, serve on a committee, or just attend a meeting or two. Ponzio also urges you to keep your board informed of issues at your workplace, saying that his lines of communication will always be open to discuss problems or listen to suggestions.
