Three of the Board of Directors are elected by the Class 1 members each January, with each serving a three year term. The President, Vice-President and Secretary/Treasurer are elected by the Board of Directors from the seated Board and each office is a two year term.

Tim Petrachek

Tim Petrachek has lived in San Diego County since the age seven. Raised in El Cajon with his two brothers, he attended Grossmont High School. After turning 21, Tim expressed interest in a career in law enforcement. His older brother, who was an officer with the El Cajon Police Department at the time, suggested Tim apply to the Sheriff’s Office because they were “the best around.” Following that advice, Tim has been with the Sheriff’s Office for 25 years.

He started as a reserve deputy in Santee, becoming a sergeant in charge of the off-road enforcement team. In July 1986, Tim began his career as a deputy sheriff. After the academy, he was first assigned to the El Cajon Jail and then the Las Colinas Men’s Detention Facility when it first opened. Later, he was assigned to the Vista Patrol Station where he worked patrol and traffic. Since August 1991, Tim has worked at the Encinitas Patrol Station as a motor officer.

Tim served two previous terms on the board in the 1990s, serving as the negotiations and political action committee chairman during his original tenure. Tim brings experience, leadership, and commitment with him to the current board of directors.
