Three of the Board of Directors are elected by the Class 1 members each January, with each serving a three year term. The President, Vice-President and Secretary/Treasurer are elected by the Board of Directors from the seated Board and each office is a two year term.

Read the President's Report

Dave Schaller was born in Arlington Heights, Ill., and spent his childhood between Illinois, Minnesota, California and Arizona. After completing his secondary education in Arizona, he moved to San Diego in August 1990. He applied for a position with the Sheriff’s Department in November of 1990 and attended the 13th Sheriff’s Corrections academy in the summer of 1992. After working in detentions for about 18 months, he attended the 27th Regional Law Enforcement Academy. 
 
After the academy, Dave returned to work in detentions for two additional years, with six months at the George Bailey Detention facility then 18 months at the Prisoner Transportation Detail. He began his law enforcement career at the Poway Patrol Station in August of 1996. Since then, Dave worked patrol as a field training officer and corporal, in community policing, and as an area detective at the San Marcos Patrol Station. He was promoted to sergeant in April 2006 and was briefly assigned to the Court Service Bureau - San Diego. He transferred to the Poway Station and then back to San Marcos as a patrol sergeant. Dave is currently assigned to the San Marcos Patrol Station’s Community Policing Unit. 

Dave is a graduate of the San Diego State University’s School of Public Administration, where he completed his bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in labor relations. He graduated the program with distinction for academic excellence within the course of study. 

Dave’s primary goal as a director is to be responsive to DSA members and to represent the association in the professional manner the membership has come to expect.
