Bill Sims & Bob Wilson Raise Funds to Fight Cancer

DSA Members Retired Deputy Bill Sims and Deputy Bob Wilson will undertake an astounding journey in May of 2009 to raise money for the American Cancer Society. They will paddle in a kayak close to 1,200 miles from an Diego to Cabo San Lucas then up the Sea of Cortez to La Paz. They will average at least 30 miles a day, hoping to complete the trip in 40 days.

They have asked people to pledge a small amount per mile paddles. A few pennies goes a long way. Three cents per mile would be a pledge of 36 dollars, and 10 cents per would be 120 dollars. Your pennies-a-mile pledge will go directly to cancer research. Of course, flat sum donations will also be accepted. Not a cent will go to fund the expedition. Contributors can let their heart and wallet be their guide.

Contact Bob Wilson at (760) 519-4802 to get more information or make a pledge today!

Fitness Together Sponsorship

Fitness Together of Rancho Bernardo, Calif. is sponsoring 1,200-mile “Paddle for the Battle” kayaking fundraiser in support of the American Cancer Society. Bob Wilson, husband of Fitness Together of Rancho Bernardo owner Dona Wilson, and partner Bill Sims have been training for months in preparation for the kayak journey they are calling “Paddle for the Battle.” The pair plans to travel around the Baja California peninsula, from Tijuana, Mexico to La Paz, Baja California Sur in efforts to raise $10,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Deputies’ kayak voyage will raise cancer cure cash

By Leah Masterson Today’s Local News
“Wilson was ready to raise the bar when he began planning a six-week kayak trip to Mexico that would take him farther than he’d ever been before on a kayak: 1,200 miles from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas and then around the tip of the Baja Peninsula and to La Paz.”

Paddle For The Battle

Planning is progressing nicely for the expedition from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas in May.  All equipment has been ordered and received.  Bill and I now have to work out the menu.

Our training will consist of daily paddling of 30 miles or so along with some weight training.

This is a cancer fund raiser and contributions are beginning to add up nicely.  Anyone wishing to contribute to the cause can call me, and I will happily give details as to how to give.  As a reminder, all contributions go to cancer research and not one penny will go to the cost of the expedition.
